On the Official Google Blog, Thomas Gayno, Associate Product Marketing Manager of Google France, posted about the Rugby World Cup.

Normally this wouldn’t be of any interest to me, but I did notice that he linked to this essay about the differences between American Football and Rugby. Actually, he only linked to a summary of the essay: the host, MegaEssays.com, sells the full thing and thousands of other “high quality papers and essays” for $20 a month. These businesses tend to cater towards high school plagiarists, who are an ever-present problem in education.

Ok, maybe not the best thing to link to, but there’s a touch of hypocrisy in this. Look over on the right-hand side of this page. See those ? (I’ll wait for you to come back if you get sidetracked.) You won’t see any essay services like MegaEssays among them because back in June, Google banned them all from AdWords.

May I recommend the Wikipedia article on the subject, Thomas? After all, if you’re going to link to a site that’s frequently plagiarized by high school students, you might as well link to a free one.

I Digress

I really enjoyed this line from Wikipedia’s article on Rugby union positions:

The role of both the loose- and tighthead props is to support the hooker in the scrum and to provide effective, dynamic support for the jumpers in the line-out.
